Frozen Ship FAQ — Answered

The questions players ask most before and after jumping into Nionetix's frozen-Earth survival-colony game. If your question isn't here, the linked guides almost certainly cover it.

Answers reflect the Early Access build and official store info as of Aug 7, 2026. EA details (multiplayer, roadmap) can change — we update this page as Nionetix confirms.

Basics & Release

When does Frozen Ship release?

It launched into Steam Early Access on August 6–7, 2026 (app 3423990; Epic arrived earlier on July 17). The price is reduced for the entire Early Access period.

What platforms is it on?

Windows PC only — Steam and Epic. No confirmed Mac, Linux, or console versions. See Platforms for the full breakdown.

What kind of game is it?

A survival + colony-management hybrid: first-person scavenging of a procedural frozen world by day, and managing a 20-crew mobile city aboard your ship by night.

How much does it cost?

$16.99 USD. There's a launch 15% discount running through August 20, 2026, the price stays reduced across the whole Early Access period, and a free Demo is available.

What languages are supported?

Eight: English, Spanish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, Japanese, French, and German.

Is it single-player or multiplayer?

Pure single-player — there is no online or co-op play. See Multiplayer for details.

Is there a Mac, Linux, or console version?

No — it's Windows PC only (Steam/Epic). There is no confirmed Mac, Linux, or console release. See Platforms.

Are there cheat codes, console commands, or promo codes?

As of launch there are no officially confirmed cheat codes, console commands, or promo codes. See Codes before trusting anything you find online.

How long is Early Access?

Roughly 1–2 years, with continuous updates throughout the EA period.

How long is the first chapter?

Around 20 hours, after which you can keep exploring the procedural world.

Multiplayer & Co-op

Is Frozen Ship multiplayer or co-op?

At Early Access launch the focus is single-player survival-colony. Check the Steam page and our roadmap note for any co-op plans — we'll confirm here if Nionetix announces it.

Is there crossplay?

Crossplay isn't confirmed for Early Access. Assume no crossplay until the developer states otherwise.

Gameplay

How long is a day?

Daylight runs until the 18:00 curfew; night at ~−67°C is lethal outside. The in-game clock is your hard deadline for every scavenge run.

How many crew do I manage?

20 survivors, each with morale states (illness, fatigue, fear, faith). You assign roles rather than micromanaging in real time.

Can I customize or move the ship?

The ship is a "mobile city" — your base and transport between sites. Building layout and upgrade choices are where you shape it; see Base Building.

Is there controller support?

Survival-colony hybrids on Steam commonly support controllers, but confirm on the store page for Frozen Ship specifically.

How does saving work?

Use multiple save slots — branching story decisions and procedural runs are easier to revisit, and EA patches can occasionally affect saves.

Early Access & Roadmap

Is it worth buying in Early Access?

If the premise excites you and you tolerate EA rough edges, yes — the discounted EA price lowers the risk and the ceiling is high. Our Review & Verdict breaks it down.

What's coming after launch?

The "New Beginning" main storyline and many locations arrive through EA updates rather than at day one. Nionetix is building the game around player feedback.

Will there be mods?

A modding scene typically grows as official tools arrive. Track the Mods page for safe-install guidance and where community mods will live.

Getting Started

I'm overwhelmed — where do I start?

The Beginner Guide walks your first week step by step: boiler + kitchen first, scavenge by daylight, return before 18:00.

What's the most important resource?

Wood, for heating — the ship burns ~600 units/day just to stay livable. Secure a wood loop before anything decorative.
